BEAUTIFUL SKIN CARE SECRETS

A great image begins with great skin! Good skincare habits are necessary for Total Skin Wellness! Great beauty begins with a healthy, well taken care of body, your skin will glow and your eyes will sparkle if you take health seriously.

Nutritional Supplements - Vitamins A, C, E and beta carotene are antioxidents that protect your skin from damage of the environment. For healthy skin be sure your supplements contain these oh so important ingredients!

Proper amounts of water keep the skin hydrated from within. Drink at least eight-8oz glasses daily.

You MUST properly maintain your skin on a daily basis to ensure skin is at it's best. Cleanse, exfoliate, tone and moisturize on a schedule. Adopt a regimen and stick with it!

Mixing and matching skin care products is not a good idea. Brand X cleanser with Brand Y moisturizer may not give your skin what it needs. For best results and getting the most for your money, find a brand you love and purchase a set with cleanser, exfoliator, toner and moisturizer together.

Alpha Hydroxy acids are Mother Nature's secret skin care weapon. These products repair the skin for a healthier, more youthful look. A super-exfoliator for dead skin cells, these products bring to the surface younger, fresher looking skin. You receive all the cosmetic benefits of Retin-A without side-effects.

Smoking cigarettes causes the blood vessels in the skin to constrict, reducing oxygen flow and the flow of vital nutrients. Too much alcohol has the same effect. Use in moderation!

Your body and your skin requires a good nights rest to repair itself. Be sure to get the amount you need.

Proper exercise helps the body by improving the flow of nutrients and blood to the skin and face.

90% of the signs we contribute to aging are caused by exposure to the sun! Be sure to wear sun protection everyday, winter or summer.

If you want a tan on your face use sunless tanning products. You may also dust a bronzer on your forehead, nose, chin and collarbone for a sun-kissed glow.

FOR A BEAUTIFUL FOUNDATION

Choosing the right foundation:

If your skin is oily you will want to use an oil-free or water-based foundation. The new wet/dry powder foundations are also an excellent choice.

Normal or combination skin should alter foundation based on how your T-zone is responding. If your T-zone is acting a little shiny try an oil-free or wet/dry foundation. When the T-zone is drier you may consider a more creamy foundation. T-zones change with the seasons in most cases.

Dry skin loves the feel of a rich liquid or cream foundation. Be sure to always moisturize before applying your foundation.

Selecting the right shade:

The back of your hand is usually darker than the skin on your face, so test your foundation on your jawline. This will let you know immediately if you will have a line. The perfect shade is one that disappears on the skin.

Applying your Foundation:

You should always allow time for your moisturizer or alpha-hydroxy acid products to absorb into the skin before applying foundation. My trick for this: apply products then go put on undergarments. You are ready to apply foundation!

Using a sponge provides an even, sheer finish. This is preferable over using your fingers and you'll be amazed at the difference.

Using a powder will set your foundation while absorbing excess oil. This reduces blemishes and gets rid of any lines of demarcation. If your skin is dry, powder lightly.

If you are looking for heavier coverage from your foundation use a cream or oil-based foundation and apply powder more heavily.

TAKE A POWDER

Powder adds a glamorous velvety finish while helping to remove the shine of excess perspiration and oil. Carry a compact to minimize that midday-shine pressing onto the nose, chin, forehead and cheeks.

Choose your powder based on your skin type:

For dry skin you'll want a light-deflecting pressed or loose powder. Dry skin has a tendency to look dry around the eyes. You want a powder that will deflect the light.

Oily skin should opt for double protection in an oil-absorbing, Oil-Free powder. This helps to prevent shine. Powder early and often!

Normal or combination skin should touch up just in the T-zone during the day with loose or pressed powder. This is especially important if the eye area tends to be drier.

BEAUTIFUL BLUSH

Many women shy away from blush, afraid that they will look harsh and over-done. The correct technique will help you avoid that problem!

The right way to blush:

Smile or suck in your cheeks to locate the apples of your cheeks. Begin at the center of the apple and apply blush up to the corner of the eye and the temple. Blush should never go below the bottom of your nose, or any closer in than the iris of your eye. Applying blush high on the face makes your eyes sparkle.

After applying blush, blend with a dry makeup sponge. Use the edge of the sponge like an eraser on the outer edges of the applied blush to buff away any lines of demarcation.

Never apply blush below the cheekbones. This tripe of color only creates an illusion that brings the face down and makes you look older.

When the seasons change, change your blush! Deeper, rich colors for fall and winter, paler tines for spring and summer.

Note for oily skin: Excess oil causes the skin to grab color causing your blush to darken as the day goes on. Avoid this by powdering often, not with blush but with pressed translucent powder.

MAGIC MAKEUP LOCK

Use these three simple steps to help keep makeup looking fresh all day!

1. Apply foundation and blush, then set makeup by brushing on an excessive amount of loose translucent powder.

2. Spritz face with hydrating mist. This helps "lock-in" powder on top of makeup.

3. Brush off excess powder and apply a second, light dusting of powder. Blend Well!

Go Back.

MORE ON SKIN CARE

Beautiful Skin

Never forget to clean your skin thoroughly before going to bed, so that your skin can breathe freely at night. It’s much healthier to eat a well-balanced diet, so skip the fast food and substitute fresh nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. If you do appear to be sensitive to a particular food, cut it out of your diet. Drinking plenty of water also helps maintain soft, clear, clean skin by flushing toxins out of your body.

Equal parts of lime juice and cucumber juice acts as astringent and helps to bleach the skin. Try a mild, soap-free cleansing bar or wash-off cleanser and rinse with warm water. Avoid using soap or strongly medicated products which can strip away the skin’s natural protective barrier of oils. Follow with a light, non-comedogenic, oil-free moisturizer that won’t clog pores and cause blackheads. Use an eye gel, not eye cream or moisturizer, around the delicate eye area.

To keep your feet free from cracks, immerse your feet in lukewarm water to which lemon juice and coconut oil have been added. Scrub with a pumice stone after 20 minutes. Dry and apply cream liberally. Brittle nails which split easily should be painted over with colourless iodine before applying nail polish, never use acetone on the nails, it is best to invest in a really good quality oily remover. To keep your body soft and smooth in winter, mix equal parts of olive, mustard oil and sesame oil and massage it all over the body an hour before your bath. This oil is very good for the skin and leaves it smooth and free from blemishes. An egg pack does wonders for your skin. First beat up the white of the egg and apply it on the face. When it dries up, beat up the yolk and apply that over the white. When that dries and the skin feels taut, wash it off with warm water. This mask closes the pores and greatly refreshes the face. Stop pimples in their tracks by mixing some brewers yeast with plain yogurt and applying to face. Let sit a few minutes, then wipe clean.

For Dry Skin

If your skin is dried up, split or fissured, apply mustard oil to the affected parts before going to bed every day. To make a face pack for dry skin, mix the juice of half a lemon with two teaspoons of olive oil and the yolk of an egg. Apply it on the face, leave it on for half an hour - then wash it off. The top of the milk can be used as a face pack which helps to soothe the skin. In winter, use a paste of besan for bathing instead of soap. It prevents dryness and the skin remains smooth.

For Oily Skin

Rub a rind of lemon over your face, this will lessen grease and whiten your complexion. Take a teaspoon of lime-juice and stir in half a teaspoon of honey and few drops of milk. Mix well and apply over your face and neck fifteen minutes before you take your bath. This lotion will have a mild bleaching effect on a greasy skin, because of its excessive oil may be rather sallow.

For dry hair, try opening a couple of vitamin E capsules and adding to shampoo once a week. For oily hair, mix equal amounts of aloe vera gel and shampoo, plus a tablespoon of lemon juice.

I. LIP TIPS

To make your mouth look larger wear bright coloured lipsticks and for a smaller look wear dark or muted colours. For a fuller lip effect a darker shade of lip pencil just above the lip ine does the trick. blend it with a lighter shade of lipstick

You can get a softer shade by blending the lipstick with a lipstick moisturiser.

To blot lips more evenly, separate a two-ply tissue and use one sheet at a time. Blot your lips, then re-apply the lipstick, then blot again. This will absorb excess oil and leave pigment

To keep lipstick off your teeth is to apply lipstick, form an O with your mouth. Insert your index finger then slowly pull your finger from your mouth. Excess lipstick clings to your finger, not your teeth.

A gloss with a hint of color is easy to apply, gives your lips a soft blush, and doesn't need a lip liner. Just sweep across the lips and you're ready to go.

To keep lipstick color on longer

Apply the lipstick with a lip brush
Choose a lip pencil in a color to go with your lipstick.
Outline and fill in your lips completely with the pencil.
Apply either a sheer color or the matching color lipstick over the lip pencil.
Gently powder you lips.
Wipe away any excess powder around
your lips and apply lipstick over the powder on your lips. Your lipstick color will stay on even through a meal. The dryer the lipstick the longer it stays on. The powder will dry the lipstick but the second application will make your lips look moist.

To make your teeth appear whiter, use cool, bright hues (Pink, Raspberry, Plum) with a glossy/frosty finish.

II. HAIR YOU ARE

Never brush or comb on a wet hair

Drying your hair - Use cool or warm at most heat. High heat is the enemy of healthy hair. It takes a little longer, but your beautiful hair will be your reward for patience.

III. THE RIGHT EYE CONTACT

Make up tips

To make eyes appear larger, only apply mascara to the top lashes.

To avoid clumpy mascara, wipeoff the brush with a tissue before applying.

Prevent your lashes from clumping by using a bit of powder on them.

If you are afraid of using liner, slightly dampen the tip of your eyeshadow wand and use a deeper eyeshadow shade next to your lashes to create a line for your eyes. Remember to blend!

Health tips

For bright eyes, increase your intake of citrus fruits, and fresh vegetables for more vitamin A.

For bright sparkling eyes, just splash cold water on them every morning.

Soak amla overnight in water and use this water the next morning to wash the eyes.

If your eyes are sleepy or dull-looking, cut very thin slices of cucumber and keep them on lids for about ten minutes.

If you have dark circles around your eyes, cover them with cotton soaked in lukewarm milk for 15 minutes every day.

PUFFY EYES?- if so, place two tea bags(which have been soaking in luke-warm water)on your eyes. This will reduce the swelling and the redness.

Beauty tips

Invest in one good pair of slant-edge tweezers and tweeze in the direction of hair growth.

Pluck only one eyebrow hair at a time.

Use an old toothbrush sprayed with hairspray to brush brows into shape.

Finish the look off by gently nipping any stray hairs with scissors.

When you are finished dab a little moisturizer to lesson irritation.

Don't over tweeze - As we age, our brows naturally begin to thin.

To thicken eye-brows, and eye-lashes apply castor oil to them regularly at bed time. The result will not be quick but you are sure to find some improvement within a few weeks.

Eye-brows can be groomed into neat trim lines if they are brushed conscientiously. Use a mascara brush and brush them every day.

For scanty eye-brows, add a few drops of glycerin to a little castor oil and apply it on eye-brows. Leave it on over night.

T there is a definite link between colours and personality traits.
If you like blue, you are competent, capable, resourceful, and a good money maker.

VII. REVEL IN JEWELLERY

Complement your jewellery with your necklines

Slender necks: Chokers that are dramatic and equal in size all the way around create a sensational, tailored look.

Scoop Necklines - Vintage chokers, 18" chains, pearls, or drop pendants. A scoop neckline can also be worn with long chains, but always wear your necklace at least 3-4 inches below the neckline.

V-Neck Necklines - A V neckline is the perfect frame for 18" drop pendants.

Collar - For a casual look, open the collar and wear a simple choker or 18" chain. For a dressy look, wear longer necklace tucked under the collar, or button the collar and wear a pin.

Turtleneck - This neckline is usually found on solid colors, which makes it great for showcasing dramatic jewelry. The best choices for this neckline are 24" and longer. The most common mistake is to wear a necklace that is too short. Long necklaces with pendants are wise choices.

VIII. GENERAL

Slouching adds pounds! Practice holding your chin and stomach in to improve posture and look thinner.
Tight elastic produce bulges. The panty line is a prime culprit.
A little looser (but not baggy) is always better.
Keep your problem areas covered. For example, if your thighs are heavy do not wear shorts.

For beautiful teeth, mix a little baking soda and peroxide together and use as a paste once a week. This will remove stains and plaque.
