Nainital

Sobriquet: District of Lakes.

Nainital is a district in the State Uttaranchal. Placed in the laps of the Himalayan range it is a world filled with natural splendour and scenic beauty. The lofty snow capped peaks, green valleys, serene lakes each and everything add to its pristine beauty. The tranquil landscape. Nainital is a place of lakes, the prominent of those is the lake Naini surrounded by Hills on all sides. The unlimited expense of natural beauty make Nainital surely a romantic place. There are also places of historical interest, wildlife reserves and lot more in Nainital which make it a tourist attraction. Here are some places and about them that you can visit when you are there.

Lake :
The focus of Nainital’s beauty is the beautiful lake Naini. The reflection of the hills around it and the villages make this lake beautiful in the daytime. The reflection of a large number of lights from the hillsides makes it even more desirable in the night, here you can do yachting, boating. The north end of this lake is Mallital while the southern one is called Tallital, with a bridge. Both the ends have shopping centers, with good laid out marts and shops.

The Mall :
The Govind Ballabh Pant Marg is the road running along one side of the lake. This road is a large shopping and business center with many hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, banks and other businesses. The summer months here are very busy so the road is closed for vehicular traffic in the evening hours.

Zoo :
The Govind Ballabh Pant High altitude Zoo is at an altitude of 2100 meters in an extensive open area. It has number of animals.

Aerial Ropeway :
One of the main attractions of Nainital is the ropeway connecting Snow-View point with Nainital. This aerial ropeway starts at Mallital there are two trolleys to carry passengers.

Snow View:
At a height of 2270 mts is this Snow View hill top. It is at a distance of 2.5 km from the town. This hill top can be reached by a ropeway or road. It offers a splendid view of the beautiful snow covered Himalayas.

Naina Peak or China Peak :
With an altitude of 2611 mts the Naina peak is the highest peak around town, it is about 6 km from the town. We can see the full Himalayan range on one side and the Birdseye view of the Lake city Nainital in it’s wholesome splendor.

Dorothy Seat & Tiffin Top :
Dorothy seat is a memorial to an English lady painter Dorothy Kellet built by her husband. This beautiful picnic spot, is a peak 2292 mts high at a distance of 4 km from town. Tiffin top gives an excellent view of the Himalayas and the neighboring countryside.

Bhowali :
Bhowali is 1706 mts high and at 11 km away from Nanital. It is famous for its magnificent sceneries and also as a hill fruit mart.

Sat Tal:
A cluster of lakes in the oak forest, that is how Sattal is, that is what makes it unforgettably extraordinary. It is at a distance of about 23 km from Nainital and at an altitude of 1370 mts. The first lake that catches your eye as you enter in Sattal is the Nal Damayanti Lake, then the Panna or Garude lake and then further down there is a cluster of three more lakes these are Ram, Laxman and Sita lake.

Bhimtal:
About 22 km from Nainital is Bhimtal at an altitude of 1370 mts. The main attraction of Bhimtal is it’s beautiful lake larger than the Naini Lake. This lake gives tourists a splendid panorama. Boating can be enjoyed in the lake and the small island in the middle of the lake is also reached by boat where a restaurant is placed on the top of it. There is also a 40 ft high dam here.

Naukuchia Tal:
At a distance of 26 km from Nainital and at an altitude of 1220 mts is Naukuchia Tal. Placed within a fascinating valley it gives a good chance of angling and bird watching.
Rowing, yachting and boating also can be done. It is a pretty nine corner clean deep lake.

Ranikhet:
Ranikhet is a hill station located at 60 km from Nainital. At an altitude of 1829 mts and with all its scenic beauty it seems to be a paradise. The cool fresh and pure mountain breeze, delightful views of the Himalayas all of these make this hill station even more elegant and desirable. Near to this hill station are some places that can be visited. About 6 km from town Upat Kalika has one of the best mountain golf links, at 10 km are the Chaubatiya fruit gardens and a government fruit research center, there’s also a dam, Bhalu Dam, at 3 km from Chaubatiya, it is a famous spot for fishing.

Binsar :
About 95 km from Nainital, Binsar is one of the best picturesque places in the Kumoun Himalayas. It is at an altitude of 2412 mts and gives a great view of Kumoun hills and greater Himalayas. It is surrounded by Alpine flora. The main attraction of Binsar is the majestic view of Himalayas. A 300 km length of famous peaks, include Chaukhamba, Nandadevi, Kedarnath, Pachachuli and Nandakot.

Jim Corbett National Park
At about 118 km from Nainital is the Jim Corbett National Park established in 1936. It is named after the legendary conservationist Late Jim Corbett whose stories also have been published. It is located on the banks of the Ramganga river covering an area of 521 sq km. Here Project Tiger was launched.
