Take
a peep into the Kaliedioscope of the Wedding Traditions
In telugu weddings, before the wedding the groom pretends
to leave for Kashi
Yatra , a pilgrimage centre to devote
himself to God and a life of prayer. He carries a walking
stick and other essentials pretending that he is not interested
in becoming a householder anymore. He relents and agrees to
the marriage only after he is stopped and persuaded by the
bride's brother to fulfill his responsibilities as a householder.
In Bengali weddings The morning aftere the wedding
day, the groom adorns the forehead of his bride with vermillion.
He does this by looking into a mirror.
In most kannada marriages a game called Okhli
is generally played, the groom's wedding ring is dipped in
a vessel containing coloured water. The bride and her brother
are expected to search for the ring thrice.
In kashmiri weddings, the groom's eldest aunt
refuses the newly-weds entry into their home until she is
given cash or jewellery.
In the United States, a wedding invitation sent to
the White House comes back with a personalised message
from the President
for the couple.
In Goan tradition,, in seperate ceremonies, the
bride and groom are required to bathe in coconut
water, on the night before
the wedding.
In
Tamil weddings, after the entire proceedings, there is an
oonjal
ceremony.
The newly weds are made to sit on a swing and the elders
slowly rock it to and fro accompanied to some songs.
This signifies the ups and downs the couple have to
share despite which they will maintain a harmonious
relationship. |
